St Patrick's Day in Ireland is both a national and religious holiday, and St Patrick is the country's patron saint. During this special celebration, which takes place on 17 March, Irish cities fill with crowds of locals and tourists eager to enjoy the attractions prepared for the occasion. This year, travellers from the United States also arrived for the festivities. The video featuring the American tourists and the coachman who offered a carriage ride made a significant impact in the local media.

Shocking incident

In the video shared on social media by the editorial team of The Sun, a man in a black jacket and blue jeans can be seen chasing the tourists, shouting "Pay me now!". The coachman strikes them several times with what is known as a driving whip, demanding payment which they had allegedly not made despite using the service earlier. Foul language was also used.

One of the tourists eventually pulls out a wallet and gives the coachman $100 (about £77). The aggressor then walks away.

St Patrick's Day

During the incident, which occurred amidst the celebrations, the streets of Dublin were full of tourists. This year, around 100,000 visitors came to the Irish capital for the patron saint's festivites, with more than 4,000 artists and groups participating in the parade.

Richard Tierney, CEO of the St Patrick’s Festival, thanked the participants and artists for their contribution to this year's celebrations. "This year's parade is a magnificent spectacle," he said.
