Apple pie coffee: A comforting sip for chilly days

Some people eagerly await the first frosts. Rain and the chilly weather provide an excellent excuse to stay indoors. What more could you ask for a warm blanket, a good book, and a film with a loved one on a November weekend? A mug of a sweet, warming drink would certainly enhance the experience.

Apple pie coffee is ideal for a leisurely morning with a book or a long-overdue catch-up with a friend. Sweet, aromatic, and infused with an autumnal ambience—coffee with apple purée gently stimulates and lifts your spirits. It's a treat for all autumn enthusiasts.

Coffee and dessert 2-in-1

If you're craving coffee with sweet additions but prefer not to take risks, rely on tried and tested recipes. You can safely add caramel, vanilla, or hazelnut syrup to the popular Viennese coffee. Variants with liqueurs, such as amaretto or advocaat, are also reliable. Serving this coffee with ice cream or whipped cream is a delight.

What should you be careful about when preparing coffee with additions?

The autumn atmosphere encourages sweet coffee experiments, from Pumpkin Spice Latte to gingerbread coffee. However, caution is advised. Coffee doesn't pair well with everything, and a small mistake can result in complete disaster. A lumpy, curdled drink will neither lift your spirits nor impress your guests.

Be particularly careful when adding syrups or fruit purées to coffee. Preparing coffee with passion fruit, mango, or apple purée is possible only if you first mix the purée with warm milk, not directly with hot coffee.

It's also worth remembering that a stimulating drink won't pair well with overheated plant-based milk, such as oat or coconut milk.

Recipe for coffee with apple mousse

To make apple pie-flavoured coffee, you need:

  • 70 ml milk,
  • 50 ml espresso,
  • 1.5 tablespoons apple purée,
  • 1 tablespoon date syrup,
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon,
  • 50 ml double cream.

You can use either homemade apple purée or the popular shop-bought purée from a tube for the coffee.

Instructions

  1. Warm the apple purée in a saucepan.
  2. Mix with the date syrup and cinnamon (you can substitute the syrup with honey or sugar, such as cane sugar).
  3. Pour the mixture into the bottom of a glass.
  4. Whip the cream.
  5. Next, heat the milk. You can try frothing it with a mixer, blender, whisk, or using a cafetière.
  6. Pour the warm milk onto the apple purée.
  7. Finally, add the espresso and top with whipped cream.

Additional suggestions

You can garnish apple purée coffee with gingerbread, crushed biscuits, or grated chocolate. It tastes delightful alongside vanilla ice cream or desserts based on mascarpone cheese.
