Avoid these common pitfalls when preparing windows for holidays
Have you already washed your windows for the holidays? If not, be sure to check which mistake you should avoid. Correcting it might prove impossible.
The holidays are approaching quickly, bringing with them the tradition of washing windows, which has become a national custom. Many people, after years of routine, don’t even think about which cleaning agents they use. This is a significant mistake that could damage the condition of windows.
How to wash windows properly?
The typical cleaning routine is well-known: we start with the window frames and finish with polishing the glass. However, we often make serious mistakes by unconsciously adopting methods used in our family homes. What's the point of shiny windows if they soon lose their lustre?
Some people use strong, corrosive chemical agents. Although effective, they are harmful to the frame surfaces because they are not intended for window cleaning. The most commonly used are bleaches, acetone, and cleaning creams applied with the rough side of sponges. Unfortunately, these products can do more harm than good, damaging plastic components and negatively affecting health.
These detergents not only clean but also erode the surface. They often contain small granules, unnoticeable to the untrained eye. Using them with a rough sponge is a bad idea for cleaning windows. The effect may be deceiving: shiny at first, but over time, the plastic loses its original structure.
Due to friction and the chemicals used, micro-scratches appear on the frames and sills. Over time, dust and dirt settle in them, and subsequent cleanings only deepen the damage, eventually leading to yellowing of the surface.
The best homemade methods for cleaning windows
Wondering which products are safe for windows to retain their charm? It's worth using natural agents. They can be quickly and economically prepared at home, with ingredients usually on hand in the kitchen. Simply mix 350 ml of water with 80 ml of vinegar and add 30 ml of lemon juice. Finally, add 5 ml of washing-up liquid and mix well.
Alternatively, you can use a cleaning paste made from baking soda, vinegar, and lemon juice to quickly restore the whiteness of plastic frames. Apply the preparation to the surface using a soft cloth, and the dirt will disappear after a moment. Finally, rinse the frames with water and dry them.
How to clean windows without streaks?
After cleaning the frames, it's time for the glass, which is often covered in dust and dirt. Standard methods can be difficult to clean without leaving streaks. Vinegar mixed with water perfectly replaces conventional window cleaners, leaving the surface gleaming.
