Betsy Arakawa's haunting last days: New footage unveiled
New recordings from police cameras reveal that Betsy Arakawa Hackman, prior to her tragic death, feared she was being followed by an unknown man.
Footage from police cameras, which has recently come to light, shows that Betsy Arakawa Hackman, the wife of the late actor Gene Hackman, expressed concerns about being followed. According to Fox News Digital, her hairdresser, Christopher, informed the police about two incidents where an unknown man allegedly followed the couple.
Betsy Arakawa Hackman's fears before her death
On 27 February, news broke that the 95-year-old actor Gene Hackman had passed away. The body of his wife, Betsy Arakawa, was also found in their home, which came as a shock. Investigations revealed that the actor died a few days after his wife, who was 30 years his junior. Hackman’s cause of death was attributed to heart disease, while his wife was found to have hantavirus. The 65-year-old's body was discovered on the bathroom floor of their isolated Santa Fe home, surrounded by pills. Her husband was found lying on the floor in a utility room 20 feet away. Their bodies were discovered when an employee, concerned about the long absence of contact from the couple, checked the house.
In recent weeks, further reports have emerged regarding activities in the home of the cinema legend, with new information surfacing about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
According to Fox News, Betsy Arakawa’s hairdresser mentioned to the police that Betsy was worried that someone was following her and her husband. For a considerable time, the couple lived away from Hollywood and public life, enjoying their privacy. Betsy became concerned when she noticed a man following their car all the way to White Rock. The man reportedly attempted to contact Gene Hackman, seeking an autograph on photos, which surprised Betsy as security failed to notice the incident.
It should be noted that the footage released by Fox News from the police camera recording of the conversation with the deceased's hairdresser is now among the materials circulating online related to this case.
Following the couple’s death, their lawyer submitted a motion to block the publication of materials connected to the Hackmans' deaths. According to the "Santa Fe New Mexican," the argument was made that the couple’s right to privacy outweighs the public interest. A temporary court order currently prevents the release of photos and recordings from the scene of their deaths, though this does not extend to materials like the conversation with Betsy’s acquaintance.
The funeral of the cinema legend and his wife has not yet been planned. It is rumoured that Gene Hackman wished for Betsy to handle the arrangements after his death, as she was aware of his burial wishes. Currently, preparations for the ceremony are being managed by his daughters or perhaps a nephew. The funeral date has not been disclosed.
