Canada shuns Russia, seeks new Arctic alliances

The Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, announced that the country does not intend to cooperate with Russia on matters concerning the Arctic. This decision is part of a strategy to strengthen relations with friendly countries in the region.

The Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, emphasised during a press conference in Montreal that Canada does not plan to collaborate with Russia in the Arctic. According to "Kommersant," Carney highlighted that Russia is not considered a friendly country in this region.

The Canadian government announced it will appoint a special ambassador for the Arctic by the end of 2024. The aim of this move is to enhance security and stability in the region.

Carney emphasised that Canada intends to develop relationships with allies and like-minded countries.

Putin extends an olive branch

In response to these actions, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, expressed readiness for cooperation with interested countries in the Arctic during the VI International Forum "Arctic: Territory of Dialogue."

Putin noted that Russia is open to coordinating efforts to ensure stability in the region.
