Canadian Roshel begins local production of armoured vehicles in Ukraine

"We have completed the planning stage and have already launched production facilities in Ukraine. The enterprise was opened two months ago and is now actively operating," stated Roshel CEO Romash Shimonov, as reported by Ukrinform. The announcement was made during the conference "Protecting Ukraine’s Future: Security Guarantees and Demining for Recovery and Reconstruction."

The location of Roshel's facilities remains unknown due to security concerns and the potential threat posed by the Russians. According to Shimonov, the plant "will definitely become a very desirable target for the Russians."

As Ukrinform reports, Shimonov is certain that this is a sign of great cooperation between Ukraine and the Canadian corporation. Additionally, he claims that the Ukrainian workforce played a huge part in encouraging Roshel to launch the production facility. "We got incredible people who have the skills, knowledge, and experience that can be implemented in real solutions. You won't find this anywhere else," he added.

After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, Roshel sent hundreds of Senator armoured vehicles of various configurations to Ukraine, according to the Ukrinform reports.

Cooperation between Ukraine and Canada

An agreement between Roshel and the Ukrainian Defence Industry Joint Stock Company, signed in February 2025, guaranteed that one of the Ukrainian companies would receive the crucial technical documentation and components necessary for vehicle production, according to Militarnyi.

It is reported that some Ukrainian defence industry establishments have service centres for Roshel armoured vehicles. "At the end of May 2025, it was announced that more than 1800 Senator armoured vehicles had been in service in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion," adds Militarnyi.
