Car explosion rocks Amsterdam days after knife attack
In Dam Square in Amsterdam, there was a car explosion that resulted in the vehicle catching fire. The police suspect the incident might have been deliberately caused by the driver, who, despite sustaining serious injuries, was apprehended at the scene. This event occurred just a few days after a knife attack.
On Thursday afternoon in the central Dam Square in Amsterdam, a car exploded and caught fire. The police suspect that the incident was intentional and that the driver may have deliberately caused it.
As reported by the "Daily Mail", fortunately, although there were many bystanders nearby at the time of the explosion, no one was injured. Investigators immediately secured a wide area of the square to allow explosive materials specialists to work.
Social media recordings show a man in burning clothes next to a small red car. Officers quickly extinguished the fire on the injured man's clothes before he was taken into custody by the police.
Knife attack in Amsterdam
The explosion took place just a few days after another dramatic event in the same square – a knife attack by a man from Donetsk. A 30-year-old man attacked random people, but thanks to the heroic intervention of an anonymous Brit, a greater tragedy was averted.
The Brit subdued the attacker, saving many lives, and his bravery was acknowledged by the Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema. "He is an incredibly humble man who is now focusing on the victims," said the Mayor in an interview with local channel AT5.
As a result of the knife attack, four people, including citizens of the USA, Poland, Belgium, and the Netherlands, were injured. As reported by the "Daily Mail", all the victims are in stable condition, and the attacker himself is in custody in The Hague, awaiting further proceedings.
