Ceasefire talks in Jeddah raise hopes for Ukraine peace
On 23rd March in Jeddah, further diplomatic talks between the USA and Russia will take place. The parties are set to discuss details of a ceasefire in Ukraine, as announced by the US envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff. The White House emphasises that an agreement is getting closer, reports Newsweek.
The next round of diplomatic talks between the United States and Russia will occur on 23rd March in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The information was conveyed by the special US envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, in an interview with Fox News. As announced, the US delegation will be led by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The discussions will focus on details concerning the ceasefire in Ukraine. "I think it's a relatively short distance to a full ceasefire from there," Witkoff emphasised.
Trump-Putin conversation
On Tuesday, the conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin concluded. According to a White House statement, both leaders agreed that the first step towards peace will be a ceasefire concerning energy and infrastructure.
However, Russia set additional conditions. Moscow stated that "a condition for ending the war should include a 'complete cessation' of foreign military and intelligence assistance to Kyiv," as reported by ABC News. The Kremlin did not accept Trump's proposal for a 30-day total ceasefire, emphasising the need for further negotiations.
They also agreed that better bilateral relations between the USA and Russia will bring enormous benefits, including large economic deals and geopolitical stability upon reaching peace, reported The Guardian.
