Chris Evans poised for potential Marvel return in 2026
Chris Evans announced that it was the end of his journey in the Marvel universe and that he wanted to focus on other projects finally. He parted ways with Captain America without much regret. However, there are now reports that he will reprise this role.
Chris Evans, known for his role as Steve Rogers in the Captain America and Avengers film series and Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four, may return to screens in the film "Avengers: Doomsday" in 2026. His appearance would follow a recent cameo in "Deadpool & Wolverine," according to American media reports.
Return from the beyond
Neither Marvel nor Disney has confirmed this information yet, but fans are already speculating about Evans' return. "Avengers: Doomsday" is expected to be a film full of familiar faces, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. The film will also feature Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm/Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, which excludes Evans from that role.
Although Evans is most associated with the role of Captain America, dedicated fans of comic book adaptations have not forgotten his performance as Johnny Storm. He was last seen in this role in "Deadpool & Wolverine." He expressed his gratitude to the creators.
"Thank you to Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy for letting me be a part of such an incredible movie!" wrote Evans on Instagram in August. "They're three of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Special thank you to Ryan for making it all happen. Playing Johnny again was a dream come true and he’ll always have a special place in my heart."
To recall, Evans said goodbye to Captain America as early as 2017. "I'd be lying if I said it wouldn't be hard for me. But the passing of time and the passing of torches is part of the experience. Nothing lasts forever. There’s a beauty in that departure, even if it can be sad at times. It’s also joyful," he told journalists.
Many wondered how he would want to steer his career without Marvel projects. Evans commented:
"I see myself acting much, much less frequently. I know I've been saying this for years, but then another movie comes up. But the truth is I want to slow down. It's not that I don't love movies. It's really hard for me to work in this industry and also enjoy life, be present in the here and now. All these film experiences often last just as long as a blink of an eye. It's fun because you do what you love, but at the same time, it's a slippery slope. In this industry, everything happens incredibly fast, and real life just escapes us when you want to make too many films."
That's what he said, but the reality today is that we get at least two movies with Chris Evans every year, usually popcorn cinema and action flicks. There was the mentioned "Deadpool...", "The Red One" is in cinemas (premiering on Prime Video on 12th December), and he previously added films such as "The Gray Man" or "The Con" to his CV.
Furthermore, Marvel Studios has scheduled the premiere of the movie "Captain America: Brave New World" for early 2025, while "Avengers: Doomsday" is set to hit cinemas in the summer of 2026.
