Constitutional crisis: Romania's elections annulled amid outrage

On Friday, following the Constitutional Court's decision to annul the presidential elections, Calin Georgescu, who was supposed to participate in the second round, sharply criticised this move, calling it a "trampling over democracy."
"On this day, the corrupt system made a pact with the devil. I have only one pact — with the Romanian people and God," declared Georgescu, as quoted by the portal Politico.
The judges cited complaints of electoral manipulation, causing uncertainty and tensions in the country. Georgescu believes the court's decision is a "trampling of democracy."
"The rule of law is in an induced coma and justice, subordinated to political orders, has practically lost its essence, it is no longer justice, it is at the behest. In such a state we are no longer talking about justice, we are practically talking about a simulacrum that betrays the principles of democracy," he assessed.

The basis for annulling the elections was documents revealed by the services, indicating manipulative actions that affected the campaign of candidate Calin Georgescu.
The political situation in Romania is becoming increasingly tense, causing parties such as the radical right AUR and S.O.S Romania to potentially gain more support. Experts fear that Georgescu will become a symbol of resistance against the system, further destabilising the political scene.
