What caused the bridge collapse?

Late on Saturday evening, in the Vyhonichy district of the Bryansk region, a tragic accident occurred. According to the Associated Press, the Russian Federal Road Transport Agency, Rosavtodor, reported that the destroyed overpass ran over the railway tracks and collapsed at the moment a passenger train was passing. The train was travelling from Moscow to the town of Klimovo in the Belgorod region.

Bryansk region governor Alexander Bogomaz wrote on Telegram that the collapse of the viaduct onto the railway tracks caused seven fatalities. Thirty people were injured, including two children, and they were transported to medical facilities in the Bryansk region. Two of the injured, including a child, are in serious condition. He added that all necessary assistance is being provided to the victims.

Authorities are working on-site

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations immediately responded to the disaster, sending additional forces to the rescue units at the scene.

The authorities of the Bryansk region and rescue services are continuing efforts to secure the accident site and provide assistance to the victims.

The train was travelling from Moscow

The train was on the Moscow - Klimovo route. Moscow Railways claims that the collapse of the bridge in the Bryansk region was the result of illegal interference.

Russian information channels Baza and SHOT on Telegram, which often share news from security and law enforcement sources, reported that the passenger train had already hit the collapsed bridge. Baza indicated that preliminary information suggested the bridge was blown up. However, there is still no evidence or official information to confirm the explosion theory.

The Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine, is a strategically important area, but the Ukrainian side has not commented on this incident.
