Deadly shooting in Uppsala: Police hunt suspect on e‑scooter
In the centre of Uppsala, Sweden, a police operation is currently underway. "Aftonbladet" reports that several people have died. Witnesses cited by the newspaper claim they "heard several shots".
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the city of Uppsala. Authorities were alerted shortly after 4 p.m.
Police spokesman Magnus Jansson Klarin said that they had received multiple reports of loud noises that sounded like gunfire.
According to "Aftonbladet", three people have died. A police helicopter is involved in the ongoing operation.
The newspaper also reports that police are searching for the perpetrator, who allegedly fled the scene on an electric scooter. The suspect is described as wearing sunglasses and dark clothing.
A witness living nearby recounted in an interview with "Aftonbladet" that a loud bang was heard at 4:10 p.m. "There was a shot, and then I heard screams," the witness reported.
He added that it took around 10 minutes for the police to arrive and, based on his observations, the incident likely occurred on the street.
