Ditch fabric softeners: Vinegar emerges as a cheaper alternative
Many people desire their laundry to be both fragrant and soft. For this purpose, they often use fabric softener. However, another, much cheaper product can be found in our kitchens and works perfectly.
Various types of fabric softeners are readily available in shops. However, the prices of quality products can be quite high. But are they genuinely necessary if we want our fabrics to have a lovely, fresh scent? There is a much better and significantly cheaper alternative.
Forget about fabric softener
Many people believe that without fabric softener, their clothes won't smell as nice. This belief is particularly noticeable during winter when drying clothes outside isn't an option. Fortunately, this is a misconception.
Fabric softeners do make clothes soft and fragrant, but they aren't always the best choice. They can irritate delicate and sensitive skin and may even negatively impact the washing machine's performance.
"In truth, you can leave the fabric softener compartment empty, and nothing will go wrong. The clothes might not be as soft or fragrant, but you'll save money, take care of the environment, and possibly your health," wrote Sylwia Panek on Instagram, who describes herself as a "natural chemist."
Alternative to fabric softener
Instead of spending more money on specialised and costly fabric softeners, consider investing in a product that is not only cheaper but has numerous other uses. This product is vinegar.
Some people are hesitant to use vinegar for laundry due to its strong, distinctive odour. However, the smell is not noticeable once the clothes are out of the washing machine. You could also add a few drops of your favourite essential oil.
