In Memphis, United States, a 39-year-old man was accidentally shot by his dog. The incident happened when the dog jumped on the bed, and its paw got caught in the trigger guard, causing the gun to fire. The man was grazed on the left thigh.

Police found one shell casing at the scene. The injured man was assisted at the scene and was taken to a hospital. His injuries were not serious. A woman who was in the room with him left the scene, taking the firearm with her.

According to CBS News, the dog responsible for the accident is a one-year-old pit bull named Oreo. A friend of the injured man told WREG that the dog is very friendly, and his owner is doing well after the incident.

Other incidents involving dogs

The British newspaper "The Times" reminded readers that this is not the first such accident involving dogs and firearms. Two years ago, a German Shepherd shot its owner when, while on the back seat of a car, it accidentally triggered a shotgun pointed forwards.

Another incident involved a hunter who lost a leg during a duck hunting trip. His Labrador stepped on the trigger of a loaded gun, causing it to fire. Also, a resident of Iowa was injured while playing with his dog, Balew. While jumping, the animal unlocked a gun hanging on a strap and then fired a shot. After the accident, Balew lay on the ground and whined for a long time, which the owner commented by saying that "he’s quite the coward."

In light of these incidents, the police urge extra caution when storing firearms in the presence of pets.
