Fire near Valle de Güímar
The site features a striking desert volcanic landscape. It is an utterly unique location, whose peace was shattered by a serious fire that broke out on the evening of 22nd April.
According to firefighters from Tenerife, the fire ignited in a warehouse in the nearby industrial area, and a massive column of smoke was visible from the TF-1 motorway and across the Güímar valley. Wooden pallets were burning, and the flames reached several metres high.
40 firefighters tackled the blaze
The smoke significantly reduced visibility on the motorway. Consequently, the Civil Guard, responsible for road traffic in Spain, temporarily closed the TF-1 in both directions for safety reasons.
Efforts were concentrated on preventing the flames from spreading to nearby buildings and containing the fire within the warehouse.
A total of 40 firefighters battled the blaze, alongside six members of the Cabildo’s Brifor forest brigade who joined the operation.
