  • The spokesperson for the French government, Sophie Primas, considered the truce terms in Ukraine proposed by Vladimir Putin to be unrealistic.
  • Among these terms was the halting of Western military aid to Kyiv.
  • The spokesperson also questioned the observance of the partial truce declared by Russia.

Putin does not adhere to the truce

"Vladimir Putin set conditions that do not seem realistic, at least not for European countries and Ukraine," Primas said. The spokesperson commented in this way on the results of Tuesday's telephone conversation between Putin and US President Donald Trump. She added that there is still "a certain path to be travelled" to achieve a truce.

Primas questioned Russia's adherence to the partial truce it declared, pointing out that on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, "Russian armed forces shelled energy infrastructure in Ukraine."

Overall, the conversation between the leaders of Russia and the USA "cannot end in an agreement because the Ukrainians themselves do not participate in the discussion, nor do European countries take part in it," she added.

Macron talks daily with Trump and Zelensky

The government spokesperson also informed that French President Emmanuel Macron conducts "daily talks" with Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders.

The BFMTV portal reported on Wednesday that Macron spoke by phone with the US president on Tuesday, during which he raised the issue of European interests.

The Élysée Palace, in a statement relayed by the AFP agency, expressed caution regarding the conversation between Putin and Trump. It supported the involvement of the Ukrainian side in discussions and stressed that all actions conducive to peace should be taken.
