German cities battle mounting litter crisis amidst change
German cities are struggling with the growing issue of littering in public spaces. Social changes and population growth are contributing to the worsening situation, as reported by "Die Welt".
A survey conducted by "Die Welt" across 15 German cities reveals that littering in public spaces is becoming increasingly pressing. Waste management companies, such as those in Stuttgart, identify social changes as the main cause of this problem.
Population growth and changes in behaviour regarding the use of public spaces further complicate the situation. In Berlin, particularly in the Neukoelln district, the littering problem is especially noticeable, as confirmed by residents' reports.
The ruling CDU in Berlin is taking measures to reduce littering, including tightening penalties for those who dump rubbish.
Experts, like Florian Kaiser from the University of Magdeburg, also suggest implementing structural changes, such as increasing the number of rubbish bins.
