  • The action was a protest against France's trade with Russia.
  • The figure was placed in front of the EDF headquarters in Paris.

On Tuesday, Greenpeace activists returned a wax figure of President Emmanuel Macron, which they had taken the day before from Paris's Musée Grévin, a wax museum. The action aimed to draw attention to France's ongoing economic relations with Russia, particularly in the energy sector.

The figure of Macron was placed in front of the Électricité de France (EDF) headquarters in Paris, a state-owned company responsible for supplying electricity. Jean-François Julliard, executive director of Greenpeace France, explained that the choice of this location was intended to hold Macron accountable for trade with Russia, especially in the nuclear sector.

The EDF building was marked with the inscription "Radioactive allies of Putin and Macron." Previously, after the theft, the figure had been placed in front of the Russian Embassy in Paris, where a Russian flag was unfurled and a sign reading "business is business" was displayed.

Controversies surrounding trade with Russia

Greenpeace is protesting against the economic ties between France and Russia in the sectors of gas, fertilisers, and nuclear energy. Julliard emphasised that French companies continue to import products from Russia, such as enriched uranium and liquefied natural gas.

Greenpeace informed both the management of Musée Grévin and the police about the return of the figure. The organisation emphasises that its actions aim to raise awareness about the controversial trade relations between France and Russia.
