According to "The New York Times," it was Sean Johnson, a 36-year-old veteran of the Navy SEALs, the elite unit of the US Navy. A month before the tragedy, he posted a video on Facebook proudly piloting the same type of aircraft over Manhattan.
Johnson had recently moved to New York to continue his aviation career. Before this, he was a bodyguard for celebrities and also worked for helicopter manufacturing companies. He was born in Chicago.
The pilot's wife, Kathryn Johnson, told the Gothamist portal that her husband had always dreamed of flying. "I'm just at loss for words. I don't even know what happened," she said.
