Home trick restores towels to fluffy, fresh perfection
Soft as a cloud, fresh-smelling and absorbent – such towels are synonymous with home comfort. Unfortunately, after a few washes, they lose their fluffiness, become stiff, and stop absorbing water well. Thankfully, there is a simple homemade way to restore them.
There's no need to spend a fortune on new towels or special products. Thanks to simple home tricks, such as washing with baking soda or vinegar, towels can regain their initial softness, absorbency, and freshness.
A home method for hotel-like towels
Over time, towels lose their original qualities. Even high-end ones, which initially feel like soft hotel fluff, become rough and unpleasant to touch after several washes. The main reasons are the buildup of detergents, residues of softening agents and hard water.
The simplest and cheapest way to restore hard towels is to use products you can find in your kitchen. We're talking about baking soda and distilled vinegar. The key rule is to use them separately, not in the same wash cycle.
Option 1: Baking Soda
Place 120 millilitres of baking soda directly into the washing machine drum. Set the washing cycle to 60°C. Baking soda softens, neutralises unpleasant odours, and effectively removes built-up detergents.
Option 2: Distilled Vinegar
Pour 80 millilitres of distilled vinegar into the third compartment for fabric softener. Vinegar has disinfecting properties, refreshes the colour of fabrics and removes chemical residues.
Furthermore, avoid drying towels on a radiator or in direct sunlight – high temperatures cause the material to harden. The best solution is air drying or a gentle tumble dryer cycle.
