Horror revisited: '28 Years Later' trailer ignites fan buzz
Although the horror film 28 Days Later was not a major success at the cinemas, many now regard it as a cult classic. Soon, another instalment will be released - 28 Years Later. A trailer for the production is already available, offering a little "treat" for fans of the 2002 film.
The film 28 Days Later appeared in cinemas in 2002. It tells the story of a young man who awakens from a coma to find himself in an abandoned hospital. It turns out that almost everyone has been infected with a dangerous virus that transforms them into what we would now simply call zombies. In just 28 days, the world is engulfed by a terrifying epidemic, and those who survive endeavour to fight it. The film earned a little over £65 million (approximately 80 million dollars) at the box office; however, today, it is considered a cult classic by many horror enthusiasts. The lead roles featured Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, and Naomie Harris. A new instalment is on the horizon.
"28 Years Later" - has the star turned into a zombie?
As is known, Danny Boyle has directed another film in the series. The premiere is scheduled for 20 June 2025, but interest in the horror is already gathering pace. In the lead roles, we will see Jon Harris, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes. Fiennes has been making interesting choices lately, having recently appeared as a cardinal in Conclave, with the upcoming release of The Return, where he plays a brawny Odysseus. In 28 Years Later, he will portray one of the survivors of the epidemic.
The trailer released online depicts a bleak world where people attempt to isolate themselves as much as possible from the infected. Scattered skulls, shadowy forests, childbirth amid catastrophes, abundant blood, and furious infected - this will not be a light watch.
The trailer lasts just over two minutes, and for a split second, skeletal remains surrounded by wildflowers appear on the screen. Internet users are convinced it is no other than Jim, the first film's protagonist. The skeleton even has facial features resembling Cillian Murphy. These are merely speculations, as he is not officially listed among the cast, and the production team is not commenting on his supposed "return."
The film's official description reads: "It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well." 28 Years Later is intended to initiate a new trilogy. Meanwhile, another production from this universe is underway - 28 Years Later II: The Bone Temple.
