How to banish shower grime with a homemade solution

When the sunlight hits the shower cabin glass, it often makes us want to pull our hair out. Whether it’s expensive products or cheaper alternatives, nothing seems to work, and the glass remains streaky. However, the solution is remarkably simple. All you need is to use this method, and your shower cabin will gleam once more!

Although shower cabins in modern bathrooms come in various shapes, they share two common features: they are made of glass, which helps water drain without flooding the entire bathroom, and keeping them spotlessly clean is quite challenging.

During a shower, droplets of water containing mineral particles (the cause of the white residue known as limescale) and traces of the cosmetics used during hygiene routines accumulate on the walls. The result? Instead of sparkling clean glass, we face a significant problem that high-end cleaning products often can't solve.

A good cleaner for the shower cabin? You can make it yourself!

So, how can you clean a shower cabin of limescale and soap scum? Surprisingly, there's no need to buy expensive products; the solution may already be in your kitchen cupboards! You can concoct your own shower cleaner by mixing roughly 350 millilitres of vinegar, two pumps of washing-up liquid, and two teaspoons of rinse aid, typically used in dishwashers. Combine all these ingredients and pour the mixture into a spray bottle.

Generously spray the inside of the shower cabin with the prepared solution. The next step is to scrub it vigorously with a sponge, then wait and watch the magic happen.

A secret weapon against dirt. You’ll find it in your cupboard

The vinegar in this mixture, with its natural properties, will effectively dissolve the soap scum and limescale before your eyes. Finally, rinse everything off, and you'll be able to admire your sparkling clean cabin glass. Remember to ventilate the area, as the vinegar smell can be quite strong.

Another method uses a dishwasher tablet. You can either dissolve it in warm water and scrub the cabin walls with the solution or cut open a sponge, insert the unwrapped tablet inside, dampen the sponge with warm water, and clean the dirty cabin.
