WindStream Energy Technologies is an Indian startup that has introduced a hybrid street lighting system that combines solar energy with a wind turbine. This system was created for hilly, coastal, and rural areas.
Combining solar and wind energy
According to information from pv-magazine India, the Telangana-based company has combined solar energy with wind turbines to produce energy for street lighting. The solution is off-grid, meaning it operates independently of the power grid, storing excess power for periods when it is not generated.
The system created in India consists of solar panels, a wind turbine, batteries, a controller, and an LED street lamp.
How does the Indian startup work?
It is offered in three versions with power outputs of 20, 40, and 60 watts.
The lamp's photoresistor allows for automatic switching on and off of the lighting. The passive infrared sensor (PIR) reduces energy consumption and increases the lighting's autonomy. Thanks to the hoist, you can easily clean the panels and set them up again, explained Venkat Kumar Tangirala, managing director of WindStream Energy Technologies, in an interview with pv-magazine.
He also highlighted that this project is characterised by low operating costs, reduced space requirements, and ease of integration with existing solar-energy lighting.
