Lotus Esprit, Maserati MC12, Fiat Punto, and Volkswagen Golf are just some of the models designed by Italdesign. The Italian studio boasts a truly impressive portfolio – ranging from extreme supercars to everyday vehicles. It's a part of automotive history that may soon be up for sale.

The "Automotive News Europe" service, citing sources from Italian trade unions, reports that the Volkswagen Group, which has owned Italdesign since 2010, is considering selling the studio.

Representatives of Italdesign quoted by "Il Corriere della Sera" admit that the company is currently undergoing a process of verification and valuation. It also plans to meet with employees soon. Italdesign employs around 1,000 people in Italy, Germany, China, and the USA.

The decision to sell is driven by cost-cutting measures within the Volkswagen Group. The Germans are striving to minimise the impact of the industry crisis by simplifying their business model. Disposing of less significant companies may be one aspect of this strategy.
