  • Iranian leader Ali Khamenei declared that Donald Trump lies when he says he wants peace.
  • He cited a statement where Trump demanded a quick response from Tehran to the US proposal regarding the nuclear programme, or else "something bad will happen."
  • Iran and the US are negotiating a new nuclear deal, with the key issue remaining Iran's uranium enrichment.

Ali Khamenei, the spiritual-political leader of Iran, criticised US President Donald Trump on Saturday, accusing him of lying about his peace efforts. His statements are quoted by Reuters agency.

Iran and the US announces on negotiations

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian assured that Tehran will continue talks with the US on a new nuclear deal and is not afraid of threats, nor is it seeking war.

The main contentious point in the negotiations remains Iran's uranium enrichment, which Tehran describes as peaceful. Washington aims to limit Iran's nuclear programme and ensure that Tehran does not acquire nuclear weapons.

Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened air strikes on facilities that are part of Iran's programme if an agreement is not reached. In his speech, Khamenei also described Israel as a dangerous, deadly malignant cancer in the region that needs to be eradicated.
