North Korea conducted a test of strategic cruise missiles from the sea on Saturday. This information was reported by the North Korean agency KCNA on Sunday morning local time.

The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un personally supervised the test, which was described as a trial of an "important weapon system." "The war deterrence means of the armed forces of the DPRK are being perfected more thoroughly," Kim is quoted by KCNA.

Missiles' target

The missiles reached their targets after travelling an elliptical trajectory of approximately 1,500 kilometres, not posing a threat to neighbouring countries. At the beginning of the month, North Korean media reported a successful test of a new medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile.

US President Donald Trump, who met three times with Kim Jong Un during his first term, expressed a willingness to re-establish contact with the leader of North Korea, calling him a "smart guy."
