The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, in a conversation with Tucker Carlson, stated that a key condition for ending the war in Ukraine is recognising it as a non-aligned state. Lavrov argued that Russia is ready to join a group of countries that will provide Ukraine with collective security guarantees.
He also suggested that Russia must have control over the annexed regions of Ukraine. When asked about lifting sanctions, he said that although many in Russia would like that, the sanctions have shown the necessity for "self-determination.".
Russia ready to use all means
Lavrov warned that Russia is ready to use "any means" to defend itself. "I mean the United States, and the allies of the United States who also provide this long-range weapons to the Kiev regime, they must understand that we would be ready to use any means not to allow them to succeed in what they call strategic defeat of Russia," said Lavrov.
Lavrov on the USA
During a nearly 90-minute interview posted on platform X, Lavrov repeatedly expressed previously stated views but seemed restrained in responding to the commentator's often-repeated questions about the risk of nuclear war. When asked if Russia is at war with America, Lavrov replied that he would not say that is the case.
"In any case, that is not what we want. We would like to have normal relations with all our neighbours, of course, but generally with all countries, especially with such a great country as the United States. President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly expressed respect for the American people, for American history, for American achievements in the world, and we see no reason why Russia and the United States could not cooperate for the good of the world," said the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, he added that a hybrid war is ongoing.
