Warning shots at the Lebanon-Syria border: an appeal from the Lebanese party

On the same day, the Lebanese Socialist Party (PSP) appealed to state institutions not to admit Syrians associated with the regime of the ousted president Bashar al-Assad. The group warns that accepting such individuals could result in serious "legal and political repercussions" for Lebanon.

The coming days could bring significant changes in Syria, which on 8th December freed itself from the years-long rule of dictator Bashar al-Assad. The revolution began recently after 13 years of civil war in Syria.

Fighters, primarily from the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), announced the capture of Damascus and the fall of the Assad family, who have been in power for over 50 years. The country is entering a new era that may also affect other nations in the region.

Since Tuesday, it has been reported who will lead the new state. Muhammad al-Bashir has been appointed the interim prime minister of the Syrian government.

An engineer and politician, who made a statement on Tuesday on Syrian television, will hold this position until 1st March 2025. Since January 2024, he has served as the prime minister of the self-proclaimed administration of the Islamist group (HTS) – the Syrian Salvation Government.
