The court in Florida delivered a verdict in the case of 47-year-old Sarah Boone, who was accused of murdering her partner, Jorge Torres. The woman was sentenced to life imprisonment. The recordings on Boone's phone proved crucial to the case.

The man died after being locked in a suitcase. Boone maintained it was "a game of hide and seek," but the evidence suggested otherwise.

In the recordings, you can hear Torres begging for release. Boone laughed and refused to help, remarking, "You deserve it. That's how I feel when you betray me."

During the trial, Jorge Torres' relatives, including his mother Blanca and sister Victoria, expressed deep sorrow and pain over their loss. The mother remembered her son as a loving father and brother, and his daughter Ana Victoria spoke of the chronic depression and anxiety she has faced since her father's death.

Sarah Boone claimed that Torres abused her. She alleged that he "kicked, punched, spit on, raped, stabbed, (and) choked" her. - "I forgive myself for falling in love with a monster. And no matter how grotesque he may become, I still loved him, hoped and forgave," she stated.

Sarah Boone rejected a plea deal that offered 15 years in prison in exchange for a guilty plea. She was sentenced to life imprisonment. Prosecutor Andrew A. Bain emphasized that the evidence was irrefutable.

The Boone trial began in April 2023, and the verdict was announced at the end of October. The woman claimed that she acted in self-defence as a victim of battered woman syndrome, but the court did not accept her testimony. The life sentence was handed down in Orange County.

The case of Sarah Boone drew media attention worldwide. The incident occurred in February 2020. The district prosecutor emphasized in the initial statements related to the case that the couple had been drinking alcohol and playing hide and seek.

Nothing indicated that the outcome would be so dramatic. Torres voluntarily got into the suitcase, and she zipped it up. She claimed she believed that he could open the suitcase since two of his fingers were sticking out, so she calmly went to sleep.
