Maxar restores key satellite data access for Ukraine
Maxar Technologies, an American satellite technology company, has restored Ukraine's access to the Global Enhanced GEOINT Delivery (GEGD) programme. This information was confirmed by users who received email notifications from Maxar on 12th March.
Access to the GEGD programme was temporarily suspended by the Trump administration due to political tensions between the United States and the Ukrainian government. This decision was a consequence of the prohibition on sharing intelligence data with Ukraine, aimed at pressuring the Ukrainian government into negotiations.
The data from the GEGD programme was used by Ukraine to conduct attacks on strategic targets in Russia and to precisely guide American weapons near the front line. The ban on sharing satellite data was felt by both users affiliated with the Ukrainian government and private parties monitoring the current situation on the front.
On 11th March 2025, after negotiations between Ukrainian and American delegations in Saudi Arabia, the suspension of intelligence data and military aid delivery to Ukraine was lifted.
