Regularly washing towels is essential. They consistently come into contact with moisture and skin, making them a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. To keep towels clean and soft, wash them separately at the temperature recommended by the manufacturer. This is usually around 60 degrees Celsius, and sometimes even up to 90 degrees Celsius. When washing towels, avoid using fabric softener, as it reduces their absorbency. Also, ensure you don't overload the washing machine.

Although many people are familiar with natural methods such as using baking soda or vinegar, some employed a different technique. With this method, towels will become soft and fragrant once more, just like those in a luxury hotel.

An old trick with glycerin

Homemakers discovered a simple yet effective method using glycerin for washing towels. Glycerin, recognised for its health and care benefits, acts as a natural softener. It is inexpensive and readily available in pharmacies. Simply add three tablespoons of glycerin to the washing machine. This product can be used for washing both coloured and white towels.

Towels will be like new

Glycerin forms a delicate protective layer around the fabric fibres, preventing them from stiffening. As a result, towels remain soft and also retain a fresh scent for longer. Adding glycerin to the wash will make the towels as fluffy as a cloud.

For particularly stubborn stains, it might be helpful to soak towels overnight in a mixture of approximately 3 litres of water and about 2 tablespoons of glycerin. The fabrics will then regain their freshness and appear like new.
