The media is abuzz with rumours of the Obamas' divorce. Michelle Obama chose to break her silence and address the swirling speculations about her alleged divorce from Barack Obama.

In a conversation with actress Sophia Bush on the "Work in Progress" podcast, the former First Lady explained the reasons for her absence from major political events, such as the funeral of President Jimmy Carter or the inauguration of Donald Trump.

Michelle stated that her decisions were personal in nature and not due to any problems in the relationship.

They couldn't even fathom that I was making a choice for myself. That they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing, she stated openly.

The pressure of social expectations

The former First Lady emphasised that women often face the pressure of meeting others' expectations, which can lead to misunderstandings when they choose to make more assertive decisions.

That's the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with like disappointing people, observed Michelle Obama.

She also added that independent decisions by women are sometimes viewed negatively, especially when they don't fit into established patterns.

We start to wonder: "What am I doing? For whom am I doing it?" If our decisions do not conform to stereotypes, they are perceived as negative, she explained.

A new stage in Michelle's life

Michelle Obama, who recently celebrated her 61st birthday, also spoke about her future plans and the necessity of reflection on her own choices.

Now is the time for me to start asking myself these hard questions of ... 'Who do I truly want to be every day?, admitted the former First Lady.

Despite media speculation, Michelle remains actively involved in public life. She continues to give speeches and pursue her work in girls' education, engaging in projects on a global scale.

Rumours of an affair debunked

Amidst speculation, there were also reports of an alleged affair of Barack Obama with American actress Jennifer Aniston. Asked about these rumours during a conversation with Jimmy Kimmel, Aniston firmly denied them. "It is absolutely not true," she answered briefly, dispelling all doubts.
