According to a decision made by the local authorities in Milan, so-called "red zones" will be established to improve public safety during the New Year period. As reported by Interia.pl, individuals with prior criminal records will not be allowed in these areas.

On the night of 31st December to 1st January, the police will be granted additional powers. Those deemed a threat, even based on officers' suspicions, may be required to leave the area immediately.

New Year's Eve in Milan: Authorities to introduce "red zones"

The new regulations will cover key tourist areas of Milan. They will be enforced in locations including Piazza Duomo, the districts of Darsena and Navigli, and the three train stations.

The introduction of the red zones aims to prevent incidents similar to those that have occurred in the past. There have been instances of physical assaults on participants during previous New Year's Eve celebrations.

During a meeting of the security and order committee held in preparation for the New Year's celebrations, it was also decided to establish a special point for immediate intervention and medical assistance at Piazza Duomo. This measure aims to ensure a swift response if needed and to increase the sense of security among residents and tourists.
