Morning boost: The health benefits of honey water unveiled

In the past, I began my day with coffee, but I've since realised it's worthwhile shifting it to second place. It's far healthier to start with water, enhanced with an ingredient we all recognise but occasionally overlook.

It's not difficult to deduce that I'm referring to water with honey. This beverage is often linked with our winter routine as it indeed boosts immunity and pleasantly warms us up. However, it should not be overlooked in spring, and ideally, it should be consumed throughout the year. It's a natural method to support intestinal function.

Few products are as nutritious as honey. It primarily contains an abundance of B vitamins and vitamin C, along with minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron. This composition strengthens both the nervous and immune systems. Meanwhile, phenolic compounds, which include anthocyanins and tannins, contribute anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Drinking water mixed with honey provides numerous benefits for gut health. It's advisable to drink this in the morning as it can prevent constipation and stimulate metabolism. Honey aids the entire digestive system and offers liver protection. Its antibacterial properties also help maintain a healthy balance of intestinal microflora.

Ideal additions to water with honey:

  • Lemon juice,
  • Cinnamon and other spice blends,
  • Fresh herbs, such as mint or lemon balm.

How to prepare water with honey?

Preparing water with honey is remarkably straightforward. Simply dissolve a teaspoon of honey in a glass of warm water. The water mustn't be overly hot, as high temperatures can destroy the valuable enzymes contained in honey. It's best to enjoy this drink on an empty stomach to maximise its health benefits.

Who is water with honey for?

Water with honey is advised for people with digestive issues and those wishing to naturally bolster their immunity. However, due to its high sugar content, individuals who are overweight or have diabetes should consume honey sparingly.
