NATO jets intercept Russian aircraft over Latvia again in February
Two Russian aircraft, not complying with international aviation regulations, were intercepted by French Rafale fighter jets over Latvia, NATO Air Command reported.
A statement on platform X emphasised that the French units stationed in Lithuania took action to ensure the continuous security of NATO airspace.
The Russian aircraft violated international air traffic regulations, posing a serious threat to regional security. This is the third such incident in February. Previously, on 7th February, a Russian aircraft violated Finnish airspace, and four days later, a Su-24MR aircraft intruded over Poland's territorial waters.
NATO Command reminds us that in 2024, over 400 Russian aircraft were intercepted for violating international law. Such actions disrupt the order in the airspace of the Alliance member states and require an immediate response from NATO.
