Netanyahu faces growing calls to resign amid public dissent
According to a public opinion poll published on Thursday, 60 percent of Israelis believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should resign.
The public opinion poll, published on Thursday, indicates that 60 percent of Israelis support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's resignation. According to the Times of Israel, 31 percent of respondents hold the opposite view.
Among the voters of the current governing coalition, 24 percent support the prime minister's resignation, while 94 percent of the opposition electorate express this expectation. Additionally, 64 percent of respondents would also like the Shin Bet Intelligence Chief, Ronen Bar, to resign.
Three-quarters of Israelis support the establishment of a state commission to investigate the errors of the military, intelligence, government, and state institutions. These errors allowed terrorists from Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and smaller groups operating in the Gaza Strip to infiltrate Israel in October 2023. Fifteen percent of respondents, like Prime Minister Netanyahu, oppose such an investigation.
The survey was conducted by the Manu Geva institute, involving a group of 500 respondents.
Was the Army Unprepared?
Last week, the results of an internal investigation by the Israel Defense Forces regarding the 2023 attack were announced. The investigation found that the army was unprepared for the Hamas incursion, and the military's response was chaotic and too slow.
It was emphasised that the armed forces underestimated the threat posed by this terrorist organisation, resulting from numerous errors made over the years. The investigation did not consider political decisions.
