  • At least 98 people have died, and over 150 were injured as a result of a roof collapse in a nightclub in the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo, authorities reported.

Among the victims were the governor of the province and former MLB pitcher, Octavio Dotel. The 51-year-old Dotel died on the way to the hospital after being pulled from the rubble.

The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Tuesday during a concert by popular merengue performer Rubby Pérez at the Jet Set club.

Hundreds of people were in the club at the time of the disaster. Approximately 400 rescuers are still searching the scene for survivors. There are concerns that the death toll may still rise.

  • Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina - Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović - officially requested on Tuesday from EUFOR, the EU peacekeeping mission in BiH, to detain the wanted president of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, the Klix portal reported.
  • On Tuesday, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth emphasized that the Panama Canal continues to be at risk due to China's actions, but assured that the United States and Panama are committed to safeguarding its security together.
  • US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said that reports of capturing two Chinese soldiers in Ukraine are "disturbing", as China is a major helper for Russia in this war.
  • There was a massive power outage in Georgia. A large part of the country was left without electricity. Cities such as Batumi, Kutaisi, Borjomi, and several districts of Tbilisi remain without power.
  • A federal court in Washington ruled in favour of the Associated Press's complaint on Tuesday and ordered that its reporters have access restored to White House and Air Force One events. The Trump administration penalised the agency for not using the term "Gulf of America."
  • On Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed an order recognising coal as a critical mineral, also announcing a series of other actions aimed at rolling back environmental regulations, increasing coal mining, and blocking coal mine closures.
  • Portuguese authorities reported early this year that they had accepted over 1.5 million immigrants. However, it turned out there were over 50,000 more - reported the Agency for Integration, Migration, and Asylum (AIMA) on Tuesday. According to their latest report, it is estimated that there are currently about 1.6 million immigrants in the country. The agency explained that in the data conveyed for 2024, over 50,000 immigrants who had already been on Portuguese territory during the first half of last year were mistakenly not accounted for. Officials say they are not entirely sure if they managed to count all the immigrants who came to Portugal.
