Putin signals readiness for talks, Trump remains wary

Vladimir Putin and Steve Witkoff met on Friday in Moscow. The talks lasted three hours and were described as "constructive".

On Saturday, the Kremlin spokesman revealed details of the conversation. According to him, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the special envoy of the U.S. President, Steven Witkoff, confirmed Russia's readiness to negotiate with Ukraine without any preconditions.

During yesterday's conversation with Trump's envoy, Witkoff, Vladimir Putin reiterated that Russia ready for talks with Kiev without any preconditions – said the Kremlin representative.

Peskov recalled that earlier "Putin has said this many times before". However, he omitted to mention that Putin previously questioned the legitimacy of Volodymyr Zelensky and then set conditions that were tantamount to total capitulation.

On the same day, Donald Trump criticised the stance of Russia and Vladimir Putin. The American President once again addressed the recent massive missile attack on Ukraine. "It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently" - he wrote on social media.

On Saturday in the Vatican, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Donald Trump in St. Peter's Basilica. The leaders, sitting on chairs, face to face, talked for about 15 minutes. It was their first meeting since the incident that occurred at the White House at the end of February 2025.

Zelensky posted about the conversation: "Very symbolic meeting that has potential to become historic, if we achieve joint results," he wrote.
