The parliamentary elections in Romania, scheduled for Sunday, will occur under particularly challenging political circumstances. Călin Georgescu, a radical candidate, won the first round of the presidential elections, but the Constitutional Court suspended the results.

The Polish Press Agency reports that this has caused uncertainty and tension in the country. The situation is becoming very dangerous.

Jakub Pieńkowski from the Polish Institute of International Affairs emphasises that Georgescu's strong performance changes future political dynamics. Parties like AUR and S.O.S Romania could win up to 30% of the seats in parliament, potentially affecting the future formation of the government.

- The situation is dangerous because both the uncertainty regarding Monday's decisions on a possible annulment of the first round of the presidential elections and especially Georgescu's high result, are fuelling the electorate of the radical right and nationalists - Pieńkowski assessed.

Uncertainties surrounding the presidential elections and the possible annulment of the first round by the Constitutional Court may further mobilise radical groups. Experts fear that Georgescu may become a symbol of resistance against the system, further complicating the political situation in Romania.

It is unclear how voters will react to another radical party participating in the elections, POT — the Party of Young People, which has existed for a year. After the first round of the presidential elections, its representatives declared that they will support Georgescu's party in parliament.
