Ronaldo's farewell hint: Is his Saudi stint over?
Cristiano Ronaldo has shared a cryptic message on social media, which might suggest the conclusion of his tenure in Saudi Arabia. Since late 2022, the Portuguese star has been a part of the Saudi club Al-Nassr, with his contract due to expire at the end of June.
Ronaldo moved to Saudi Arabia for a couple of reasons. Primarily, he joined Al-Nassr to play for the team, but his main objective was to promote football in the country, enhancing its potential to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034.
This objective appears to have been achieved. The Portuguese international joined the club in December 2022 from Manchester United and has since twice secured the top scorer position. Nevertheless, he did not manage to guide his team to a national championship or a victory in the Asian Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo posted a cryptic message
Ronaldo's contract with Al-Nassr runs until 30 June 2025, and as of now, there have been no indications that it will be renewed. Furthermore, there has been minimal speculation regarding his potential exit from the club. However, Ronaldo himself has added to the speculation surrounding his future.
During the night of 26 to 27 May 2025, Ronaldo shared a cryptic message on social media, declaring that a "chapter is over."
"This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all," wrote the Portuguese star.
While he did not explicitly announce his departure from Al-Nassr, the impending end of his contract coupled with the conclusion of the club's season could indicate that his days on the Arabian Peninsula are numbered. Previously, he has mentioned promising his mother that he would once again don the jersey of Sporting CP in Lisbon, the club where he first made his mark on the international scene.
