Russia, USA explore cooperation in rare earths and aluminium
Russia and the USA have begun talks about joint projects concerning rare earth metals. This cooperation may also include aluminium mining in Krasnoyarsk, writes the Russian newspaper "Kommersant."
The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RFPI) announced that Russia and the USA have entered discussions about joint projects related to rare earth metals. According to "Kommersant," some companies have already shown interest in these projects. Collaboration in this field is deemed crucial for both countries.
Near the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, there are massive plants that produce roughly 950,000 tonnes of aluminium annually. This accounts for 25% of Russia's production of this metal.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the RFPI, who was part of the Russian delegation in the talks with the USA, highlighted the importance of rare earth metals for international cooperation.
After the first meeting in February, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested the possibility of involving foreign partners, including the USA, in projects related to these metals.
Additionally, Putin proposed initiating a joint project with American companies concerning aluminium mining in Krasnoyarsk.
This marks another step towards strengthening economic cooperation between Russia and the USA, which could be mutually beneficial.
