Key Information

  • Russian drones targeted frontline areas in Ukraine.
  • Of the 90 drones, 56 were neutralised by the Ukrainian defence.
  • The attacks impacted the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions.

Last night, Russian drones focused their attacks on the frontline areas of Ukraine. Usually, targets are deeper within the country, but this time the adversary launched 90 unmanned aerial vehicles, of which 56 were neutralised by Ukrainian air defences.

During the night of 29th May, the enemy attacked using 90 Shahed-type unmanned combat aerial vehicles and various types of decoy drones, as reported in an official statement by the Ukrainian Air Force, quoted by the Polish Press Agency.

Russian drones struck nine targets in the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions. These regions were the primary focus of the latest attacks, indicating a shift in the strategy of Russian forces. "A characteristic of this attack was that only objects in the frontline areas were targeted" – the statement emphasised.

Defence Forces Cooperation

Mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, known as "drone hunters," also participated in the battle against the drones. Their efforts significantly contributed to effectively neutralising the threat.

By 8:30 AM (Thursday) Greenwich Time, air defences had neutralised 56 hostile Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles (and other types of drones) in the east and north of the country. Ten drones were shot down, and 46 were lost/neutralised through electronic warfare means, the statement added.

Attacks on frontline areas may suggest a change in Russia's strategy in the conflict with Ukraine. Focusing on these areas may aim to weaken Ukrainian defence forces in key regions.
