Russian missiles intensify: Ukraine intercepts drone barrage

In the autumn of 2024, Russia launched over 6,000 missiles at Ukraine. Rockets and drones are heading towards Ukrainian cities. The aggressor is using increasing numbers of them. The shelling is more intense than last year. The Russians now have their production line in Tatarstan, which produces designs similar to Iranian Shaheds.

In the past three months, Russia has launched over 6,000 missiles and drones at Ukrainian cities and villages, four times more than during the same period last year. According to the Ukrainian portal 24 Kanal, about half of these could have been "unarmed decoys."

The portal refers to reports from the "Wall Street Journal." The Americans have determined that Russia uses cheap decoy drones to exhaust Ukrainian air defence.

Mass drone bombardment is possible thanks to a factory in Tatarstan. The Russians can produce 1,200 Iranian Shahed analogues per month.

Russian production is based on the Shahed 136 strike unmanned aerial vehicles, which Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Corporation has been producing since the second decade of the 21st century. In Russia, the device is named Geran-2.

Ukraine is trying to counteract Russian attacks by actively using electronic warfare methods. In October and November, it managed to intercept 93% of the drones and just over 8% of the ballistic and hypersonic missiles.

According to the Ukrainian portal, on the night of 8th December Greenwich Mean Time, Russia attacked Ukraine, launching 2 guided aircraft missiles and 37 Shahed-type strike drones. Ukrainian air defence forces destroyed 2 X-59/69 missiles and 18 drones.

Russians also attacked with full force on the night of 4th to 5th December Greenwich Mean Time. The Security Service of Ukraine revealed that the attacks took place in the Kerch Strait. However, Ukrainian forces were able to repel the enemy. Traffic on the Crimean Bridge was halted for several hours.
