Russian provocateur targets Nordic countries with military jibe
Leading Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov is threatening Sweden and Finland. The presenter of the Rossiya 1 channel stated on-air that NATO countries should "carefully observe the situation" in Russia, and also mentioned that the generation of Russians "marches through Europe". Solovyov also compared the military potential of Sweden and Finland to North Korea.
The Russians are preparing for a military parade on Victory Day, which marks the anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Vladimir Putin has invited, among others, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, the President of Brazil, and the President of China to the celebrations.
Russian propaganda has recently been making significant references to the defeat of the Third Reich. Propagandists in regime-controlled Russian media emphasise the role of Moscow in winning the Second World War. They also indicate that Russian troops have already marched through Europe, winning successive battles.
Vladimir Solovyov is now exploiting history. One of Putin's leading propagandists decided to threaten Finland and Sweden by belittling their military potential and comparing it to North Korea.
Who should we be afraid of? Sweden, which last fought when its uniforms still had gold buttons? Or perhaps Finland, which we graciously forgave, and whose military potential can be compared to the strength of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea? - Solovyov asked mockingly, forgetting that both countries are NATO members.
Solovyov also went a step further. He stated that Europe should very closely observe Russian moves because "things could go various ways."
