Ryanair to phase out paper boarding passes by November 2025

From November 2025, passengers travelling with the Irish airline Ryanair will no longer be able to obtain and print traditional paper boarding passes. Instead, the carrier announced on Wednesday that they will need to use digital boarding passes generated in the "myRyanair" app.

The airline explained that the date for discontinuing paper boarding passes in favour of fully digital ones has been set for the winter flight schedule, beginning on 3rd November 2025.

Ryanair passengers will no longer download and print a physical paper boarding pass but will instead use the digital boarding pass generated in their "myRyanair" app during check-in, the company stated in a press release.

Ryanair added that passengers can use digital boarding passes generated during check-in via the "myRyanair" app. The airline emphasised that almost 80% of Ryanair's 200 million passengers use this solution.

"As a result of this customer initiative, Ryanair expects to eliminate almost all airport check-in fees from Nov 2025, as all passengers will have checked-in online/in-app to generate their digital boarding pass," the airline explained.

According to Ryanair, introducing digital boarding passes will enable travellers to reduce carbon emissions due to significant reductions in paper usage, saving over 300 imperial tons of paper waste annually.

The company promotes the app: many features

The company argues that the app is more environmentally friendly. Passengers can also use various app features, including flight information, real-time updates, and alternative flight options.

The airline has a fleet of about 600 aircraft and has declared an order for over 350 more, which is expected to increase passenger transport in 2034 to 300 million annually.
