As Saab states, the objective of this strategic collaboration is to combine ICEYE's cutting-edge SAR technology solutions with Saab's command and control systems, enhancing tactical decision-making and improving situational awareness in defence.

Saab and ICEYE will collaborate

The corporation states that space sensor capabilities are becoming vital for modern armies, providing access to essential information in challenging conditions.

Saab's integration of ICEYE's data will allow the acquisition of high-resolution images in real time, even under cloudy and dark conditions. According to Carl-Johan Bergholm, Senior Vice President and Head of Saab's Business Area, this capability facilitates comprehensive surveillance and reconnaissance, leading to quicker, more informed decision-making in complex operational environments.

ICEYE boasts the world's largest constellation of radar satellites (SAR - Synthetic Aperture Radar), with 44 satellites currently orbiting the Earth.

ICEYE, which translates to "ice eye," was established to monitor changes in ice cover. The company's inaugural contract was with the American giant ExxonMobil, involving satellites designed to support the maritime transport of oil from Moscow via the northern route. Following the annexation of Crimea, the initial million-dollar order disappeared overnight due to sanctions specifically targeting the transportation of raw materials along the north path. What initially appeared to be an end instead became a new beginning, as the information accessed by ICEYE proved invaluable. Rafał Modrzewski, co-founder of ICEYE, was a guest on "Business Class," where he shared insights into the company's operations.
