When HBO aired the first episode of "The Last of Us" in January 2023, the post-apocalyptic story based on the iconic game series sent viewers worldwide into a frenzy. At the time, there was nothing quite as satisfying to watch as the series with Pedro Pascal as Joel, saving people, but most importantly, the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who might be the key to discovering a cure for the terrifying mutation that turns people into monsters. The premiere episode alone attracted 4.7 million viewers in the United States. Over two months, the series was watched by 40 million viewers (the average viewership figure now quoted after the entire season's release is 30 million). The creation of a second season was inevitable. We finally know when to see our favourites again on streaming services and the HBO channel.

"The Last of Us 2" - when is the premiere?

The second season of "The Last of Us" will debut in April, as announced by Neil Druckmann, co-creator of the game and showrunner of the series, during the CES conference in Las Vegas. The series, which has won eight Emmy awards, returns with new episodes that will adapt events from the game "The Last of Us Part II".

The new season will feature Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, a key and controversial character. Viewers can expect thrilling scenes that reflect pivotal moments from the game. In one of the teasers, Abby states: "It doesn't matter if you have a code like me. There are just some things everyone agrees are just wrong."

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey return as Joel and Ellie. The action takes place several years after the first season's events when the characters live in a commune in Jackson. After a traumatic event, Ellie embarks on a mission to seek justice.

New characters join the cast, including Isabela Merced as Dina, Ellie's love interest, and Young Mazino as Jesse, Ellie's friend. Catherine O'Hara will play Joel's therapist, helping him cope with the trauma from the first season. Fans are eagerly awaiting these scenes, as epic moments are expected between these award-winning actors.

Viewers can catch a sneak peek of the new season in a recently released trailer. Bella Ramsey had her hands full on set, and her character won't have an easy time in the new episodes. A powerful and bloody spectacle is in store; even Pedro Pascal’s tears will not be absent.
