Storm Bora wreaks havoc in Greece: Two dead, travel warnings issued
Flooded houses, submerged cars, streets resembling roaring rivers. Storm Bora caused chaos in Greece and led to the death of a man on the island of Limnos. Authorities are urging people to avoid travelling in the Attica region, including Athens.
Storm Bora, which hit Greece on Saturday, resulted in the death of a man on the island of Limnos. The 57-year-old farmer was swept away by water while attempting to pull his car out of the mud.
A 70-year-old man was also found dead in a flooded house on the island of Limnos, although the cause of his death remains unknown. Heavy rain caused significant damage, flooding homes and destroying roads and power infrastructure.
Authorities in the Attica region, encompassing Athens, have advised residents against travelling until Sunday morning. Similar warnings have been issued for the islands of Limnos, Rhodes, and the regions of Central Macedonia and Thessaly.
Storm Bora brought heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. The severe weather conditions are expected to persist until Sunday afternoon.
