Storm warnings: 60 million Americans face severe weather risk
The central and southern regions of the United States are preparing for dangerous weather conditions. Over 60 million residents may experience extreme atmospheric phenomena before the Memorial Day weekend.
Memorial Day, an American public holiday celebrated on the last Monday of May, commemorates United States citizens who have died during their military service. This year, it falls on 26th May, which is the nearest Monday. Unfortunately, the weather is not expected to be favourable. On the contrary, it may be extremely hazardous.
Weather threats in the USA
Meteorologists from AccuWeather have warned of impending storms that may affect the Ohio, Tennessee, and central Mississippi valleys. These regions have previously faced the tragic consequences of storms, and there is currently a significant risk to the lives and property of residents.
The UPI agency reports that from the northeastern region of Texas to Georgia, there may be occurrences of tornadoes, destructive winds, large hail, intense lightning strikes, and flash floods. Repeated storms increase the likelihood of flash floods, especially in the central Mississippi valley.
On Wednesday, 21st May, in the afternoon and evening, warming in the southeastern USA may intensify these storms. Strong winds, hail, localised tornadoes, and flash floods are expected. As the week progresses, intense weather phenomena are forecast to return, moving westward over the central states.
Long-term threat
In total, over 60 million people live in risk zones. The storms will be accompanied by gales, hail, and tornadoes, and these phenomena may persist in some areas until the following Wednesday, exceeding a week in duration.
