Those planning trips throughout Europe during the ongoing Easter week, particularly over the forthcoming weekend, should brace themselves for possible interruptions in air travel. Strikes by air traffic controllers in countries such as France and Italy may affect travel plans. Furthermore, Germany and Belgium are warning of potential protest actions.

Strikes in European countries

The most significant disruptions are anticipated on Holy Saturday (19th April), when France and Italy have planned 24-hour strikes. Experts caution that this may impact the entire European airspace.

Jessie Chambers, a senior travel advisor at Global Work & Travel, quoted by express.co.uk, advises travellers to stay informed about their flight statuses. "Our advice to travellers is simple: double check your flight status before heading to the airport, allow extra time for connections, and consider travel insurance with disruption cover if you haven’t already," said Chambers.

Chaos before Easter

Chambers emphasises that although disruptions can be frustrating, they don't have to ruin the entire trip. "These disruptions can be frustrating, but they don’t have to derail your entire trip. A few simple steps can make all the difference: download your airline’s app for real-time alerts, avoid tight layovers where possible, and always pack essentials in your carry-on in case of long delays," she added.

Experts warn that disruptions may also occur in the United Kingdom and Spain. Additionally, it's important to remember that during such a busy period, they may affect not only air but also rail transport.
